VX Air

The modern, double-handed, single-trapeze skiff.

The VX Air is a fresh approach to one-design, asymmetric skiff sailing. While sharing the same hull shape and bare cockpit as the VX Two, the VX Air is all about modern, trapeze-style skiff sailing. Its sail and rig plan, foils, systems and control placements are fully optimized for the extra power created from trapezing.

Smart features such as the new spreader rake adjuster system for rig tuning in different conditions, carbon spars, larger foils for extra power, a self-tacker jib system and performance grip for trapezing stability, deliver the modern trapezing-skiff experience you’ve been seeking.

Its sail wardrobe is open to any sail maker to build, based on the VX Air sail plan measurements.

Enjoy adrenaline-wired fun on a wire!

The VX Air in detail -

Hull

The hull is in keeping with the distinctive sleek VX hull shape. A wide, shallow, open cockpit enables easy manoeuvrability for the skipper and crew while adding valuable righting moment for the trapezing crew

Foils

The foils use a centreboard and kick-up rudder system, which makes for easy launching and retrieving.

Sails

The sail wardrobe includes a square top, fully battened mainsail, full-batten jib and an asymmetric spinnaker. The sails are open to be made by any sailmaker but built to strict class rules.

Spars

The spars are clear coated carbon tubes assembled by Mackay Boats.

Controls and Systems

• The mainsheet system comes directly off the boom just like skiff sailing which clears the cock pit and enables easy trimming.

• Self-tacking jib, perfect for trapezing.

• Easy-to-use halyard systems, including the use of jib luff zip makes for fast rig up

• A large spinnaker chute along with a carbon fibre retractable bowsprit for easy hoists and drops of the Asymmetric spinnaker.

• Controls are positioned in a central position for easy access and quick adjustments

• Any excess water is shipped through the open transom.

• The boat sits on a beach aluminium trolley which allows for easy transportation and for launching and retrieving.
