With the never-ending quest for a speed edge by Moth skippers, the Mackay built Bieker Moth once again lived up to this in 2022.
Here’s a wrap on some performance stats at key regattas in 2022 –
- UK Nationals (June) 51 entrants, 1st, with 3 Biekers in the top 5
- Foiling Week (July) 70 entrants, 4 Biekers in the top 5
- European Championships (July end) 91 entrants, 2 in the top 5
- World Championships (Dec), 38 entrants, 3 in the top 5 and 7 in the top 10.
It was another hugely talented Moth fleet this year, including Olympic Medallists, America’s Cup sailors, and World Champions, with veteran, Simon Hiscock taking out the UK Nationals, sailing a Bieker Moth.
Equally impressive were the results coming from the juniors new to the Moth Class, all hot on the tail of the open winners. Juniors such as Massimo Contessi (ARG) placing 2nd overall in the Worlds after only 25 days sailing a Bieker Moth, along with Nicolai Jacobson placing 2nd at Foiling Week and 4th at the European Championships. Likewise, Mattias Coutts (NZL) placing 3rd at Foiling Week. All these juniors sailing a Bieker Moth to help them mix it up with the best. Congratulations to these sailors.
Stay tuned for 2023.
