It was destined to be one of the most fiercely contested regattas in 2024, featuring the “who’s who of the yacht racing world” competing in the 2024 Moth World Championships, held at Manly Sailing Club, New Zealand. And it did not disappoint.
The new Mackay Bieker Moth, the BM-V3, was also a standout feature of the Worlds, showcasing the latest in aerodynamic wing and foil technology, and custom composite components, all built in-house by Mackay Boats.
Now recognized as the fastest single-handed boat in the world, reaching speeds close to 38 knots at these Worlds, the Mackay Bieker Moth BM-V3 was sailed by the top 21 competitors in a Gold fleet of 37, of which 34 were Mackay Biekers.
Congratulations to Mattias Coutts (NZL), winner of the 2024 Predict Wind Moth World Championships. Coutts dominated the 17-race series with an impressive 9 wins.
Congratulations also to Hattie Rogers for winning the Women's Moth World Championship.
In close pursuit of Coutts, kudos to Jacob Pye (NZL) for finishing 2nd, Otto Henry (AUS) for 3rd, and Seb Menzies (NZL) for 4th on countback. Special mention must go to the Masters winner, Brad Funk.
It was a pleasure to have our Moth designer, Paul Bieker, on the racecourse witnessing the extraordinarily high caliber of racing on the final two days. And what a way to wrap up the World Championship, sailing in champagne conditions after a thrilling regatta in heavy air that pushed the boats to new limits.
